Holy MET Gala

There have been lots of exciting new firsts that have happened in New York during my time here so far and one of them is my first MET Gala. I really wish I could have attended the event (with my own favorite starlet in a custom Jessica Sage ball gown). But alas, I simply settled for walking past the famous occasion on my way back home from work. Not quite as exciting, but it was still cool to be so close to such fantasy.

Fashion lovers and art lovers alike flock to the MET for this event and I have myself in the past made a serious effort to visit each summer. I made a very memorable trip with my Dad to see Manus x. Machina and I can’t wait to see Heavenly Bodies. If the red carpet is any reflection of the exhibit, I know it will be absolutely amazing. Fashion is in many ways a fantasy and here are a few of my favorite heavenly looks from the red carpet.

1) Blake Lively in custom Versace

Talk about a show stopper. Her gown took my breath away! Blake always looks amazing on the red carpet, but this gown really blew me away. It was the perfect combination of the theme of the night and fashion fantasy. The colors, the rich jewels, fabrics of her custom Versace gown and delicate headpiece were utter perfection and she really looked like a goddess. I couldn’t resist sketching it myself.

2) Ariana Grande in custom Vera Wang.

Yet another breathtaking look on the red carpet! Vera Wang is of course absolutely amazing all on her own, but combine her with the Sistine Chapel and the fun loving Ariana Grande you get some real perfection. Maybe I’m a bit biased to the Sistine Chapel, as I really did have a spiritual moment when I saw the infamous ceiling in person, but it couldn’t have been better suited to the occasion. The whole look was a real dream.

3) Emilia Clarke in Dolce and Gabbana

Forget Mother of Dragons and Khaleesi, Emilia Clarke was Queen of the red carpet at the gala. She couldn’t have picked a more perfect designer or gown to wear to the opening of Heavenly Bodies. Dolce and Gabbana brought just the right touch of rich Italian flair, nodding to the themes of the evening. The styling was spot on and just beautiful for the event!

4) Katy Perry in Versace

What makes the MET Gala so fascinating and so iconic is the chances taken on the red carpet and the imagination of each designer while dressing their muse of the evening. In a way, it’s just an over the top themed party for the ultra glamorous. Katy Perry nailed the theme if you ask me. The beautiful angel wings are so gorgeous that even the Victoria Secret angels are jealous. The pairing of the chain mail like dress and the feathers was so beautiful it really made a statement that was so perfect for the event.

5) Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Ralph Lauren Collection

First off, I adore Ralph Lauren. Ralph Lauren can do no wrong in my eyes and he is probably one of my most favorite and idolized designers, so I am always beyond thrilled to see his beautiful creations at any occasion. For Heavenly Bodies he really did make Rosie look like an angel, yes, halo included. It was just stunning. The cape added beautiful drama and the golden glimmer was so eye catching and gorgeous. Also, a shout out to Jimmy Fallon who was clearly a fan, as he tried to create his own halo with one of the dinner plates at the event. The perfect mix of my favorite comedian, designer and fashion event of the year.

I’ll be waiting for all of the hype to die down before I visit the exhibit, but in the meantime, keep reading! Thanks readers!
