Welcome to the Blog!

Every designer has a point of view and a story to share that makes them unique. A designer wouldn't be able to make their vision come to life without passion, hard work and imagination or without some essential tools. This blog is a backstage pass to my work and portfolio, giving a peek into what it takes for me bring my vision to life. So, welcome to the first post, introducing just a few of my favorite tools that help me along the design process and share my vision.

Right where you need it WRIST PINCUSHION

This handy wrist pincushion not only frequently doubles as a statement bracelet (since I wear it so often), but it is my favorite sewing supply. I made this myself while learning how to drape to easily grab pins, from scraps of fabric from my children's wear collection and stuffed it with other scraps and bits of thread. It is always helpful and also adds a little personality to my sewing box with the cheerful floral print.

Always essential FABRIC SHEARS

My fabric scissors are one of my most treasured sewing supplies. They are sturdy and reliable. The green ribbon has my name on it, which was very helpful while in school for telling them apart from others and I keep them safe with the blade guards on in a soft jewelry pouch.

Color me with WATERCOLORS AND GUACHE

These are my go to medias for illustrating. I love the ethereal and artful hand they give my illustrations. Sketching and illustrating are some of my favorite parts of the design process as well as a pastime, so I always love experimenting with watercolors and gauche. My palette is covered in an array of colors from all of my many illustrations and projects, which is really helpful for mixing a new color and the swirling shades make me smile while I paint.

What's on the AGENDA

Designers are always busy and for me, when I have a lot to do, an agenda book always helps me stay organized. This one has been one of my favorites from over the years. It has plenty of space to plan out my days, is spiral bound for easy page turning (take a look at my next favorite tool) and has lots of cute stickers to add a little fun to planning.

Keep all your ideas in a SKETCHBOOK

Of course, a sketchbook is absolute must have and I especially love them because of how much I enjoy sketching and illustrating. While designing, I always use a sketchbook as a more visual version of a journal. Plenty of inspiration pictures, doodles, fabric swatches and rough sketches of designs fill the pages. I prefer a spiral bound one, since I feel it is easier for drawing and normally choose an 8.5x11 or 9x12 with paper friendly toward multi media for experimenting. The one pictured above is the sketchbook I used while creating my bridal collection, Le Jardin.

Those are just a few of the tools I use to help me design, believe me, there are many more. In future posts, I'll be sharing more tips, tools, and favorite things that come along with designing.
