After spending the winter in New York City, I am beyond ready for the springtime. I got a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city to enjoy some time in my peaceful home town. It was a beautiful day and sadly, my model of choice, Ali, was not conveniently on any school vacations, so I ended up filling in for her. My dad had a new camera to try out and we ended up having a lot of fun taking some photographs of a few other dresses for my Le Jardin collection.
The gowns had a wonderful contrasting background, of the garden in my backyard that hasn’t quite grown back yet. The photos provide an excellent contrast between the romantic fabrics and the pastel colors. Le Jardin is a very romantic collection, always drawing attention to the love between the bride and groom by using non traditional elements, like print and color.
A mix of tradition and something unique is shown in the Jane Gown. This gown was really exciting to create, as so much creativity went in to the piece from start to finish. I collaborated with a textile design student to make the print in this dress, inspired by one of my most favorite flowers, lilacs, and one of the key colors in the collection. Named for one of my favorite authors (Jane Austen) and favorite literary characters (Jane Bennet), the Regency Era inspired silhouette exudes a laid back romance with the whisper of print and touches of lace. The capelet adds another twist on tradition, adding a sweet yet elegant touch to the gown.
What girl doesn’t like a tulle ball gown? I sure do! Tulle is often my fabric of choice, I think it comes from my time as ballet dancer. When I started creating the collection, it was a given that tulle must be used, it defines the dreamy sense of romance I wanted to shine through in my collection. The most traditional of the bunch in many ways, the Carrie gown still brings something fresh to brides. The subtle blush color that deepenes at the bottom of the skirt and the many different laces on the bodice give texture and playfulness to the gown.
I have always said this, time and time again, but I really feel all clothing should make the wearer feel absolutely amazing, from head to toe. Garments should always make you feel your best and really bring joy to your day, whether sitting at your desk at work or walking down the aisle. Creating wedding gowns is so exciting to me as so many memories are connected to them. Having one of my gowns be a part of someone’s special day makes me smile knowing I helped make them feel marvelous.
